I recently attended the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) 2018 conference where I gave a presentation titled “Cardio-Immu-Knowledgy of Lyme and Associated Diseases”.
This was the 19th Annual Conference held on November 1-4, 2018, in downtown Chicago, IL. The conference theme was Tick-Borne Diseases(TBD) and the Immune System.
In this presentation I describe “Lyme carditis” as the effects of TBD on the heart and blood vessels, and what to do about it. You may be surprised to find out how important this information is for you and for your family.
Lyme carditis has been considered a rare affliction, and I show that it is not as rare as has been thought. Also, TBD problems may actually have a more major role among the causes of cardiovascular disease. You should be aware of this. Cardiovascular disease is still considered the number 1 cause of death in the US.
I am one of the few board certified cardiologists with expertise in this topic.
TBD are diseases transmitted by infected ticks and other “vectors”. Now, co-infection (more than one pathogen from a single tick bite) is the rule and not the exception. A recently published study indicated an 85% probability that a randomly selected TBD patient will respond to Borrelia and other related TBD microbes rather than to Borrelia alone. This is an important global health challenge, and it has been predicted that 35% of the world’s population will be infected by 2050.
